Mould is a microscopic living organism found everywhere. In buildings, particularly in areas of high humidity, damp conditions or pooling water, mould can accumulate, as evident by black staining. When left untreated, mould may cause health concerns in the form of respiratory problems, especially in older people, pregnant women, young children, and in persons susceptible to respiratory conditions.
Watters Environmental conducts mould assessments for ongoing operation of a building, in advance of planned renovation or demolition activities, and as part of the real estate transaction process. Where required, Watters Environmental prepares the contractor specifications and oversees the mould abatement activities. Watters Environmental also develops and implements mould management programs to ensure that mould does not become a concern within a building.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in a large number of building materials. Asbestos is highly regulated because of the health concerns associated with asbestos fibres when they are released into the air that people breathe.
Watters Environmental conducts asbestos surveys and prepares asbestos management plans in accordance with regulatory requirements. Watters Environmental also prepares contractor specifications and oversees asbestos removal activities when required to accommodate a renovation or demolition.
